IN THE DRIVING SEAT
Interview with Lee Rowland, Sales & Marketing Manager, Dennis Eagle
I’m responsible for…
I oversee the marketing teams of three different business units – Dennis Eagle UK, Terberg Matec UK and Dennis Eagle Inc in North America.
There is quite a big product portfolio across the businesses, and each have their own market ambitions and associated challenges. We work to define the strategy and ensure it is implemented to maintain our position (UK) or establish ourselves (US).
I’ve been with the company for 12 years. A lot has changed, but it’s a great place to work. People will always need their bins collecting!
The most enjoyable part of my role is…
We have a really strong team and are very good at getting things done. We have a low turnover of staff as a business, which is testament to the fantastic culture we’ve worked hard to create over the years.
Working with the US team is brilliant too – it’s a very different marketplace to what we are used to in the UK, and the diversity of characters we get to deal with makes the job interesting.
The least enjoyable part of my role is…
Only having 24 hours in a day – doesn’t seem enough at times!
My approach to marketing is…
Have a deep understanding of your customers. Find their problems and offer the best solution.
The highlight of my career so far would be…
There have been quite a few! Prior to looking after the marketing team, I managed our Bid team. Working on multi-million pound projects and seeing them come to fruition was always nice.
We ran our first Christmas advert last year too – that was a lot of fun. We try to give some recognition back to the industry as it’s a tough job collecting bins everyday in all weathers, so the Christmas ad worked well in cultivating a bit of positivity.
I would say the best advice I’ve been given is…
You can’t make everybody happy all the time. Just some people some of the time.
The person I most admire is…
My wife, Clara. She is an incredible person and has been the rock solid foundation for our family over the years.
When I was a child I wanted to be…
Something very different to what I do today – Fireman, Stuntman or Wrestler!
If I could drive any car it would be…
Eleanor – the Ford GT500 Mustang from Gone in 60 Seconds.
The soundtrack to my life is…
Kasabian – Underdog.
